Rockbund Art Museum: Internship

​1. Objective

Rockbund Art Museum offers non-paid internship opportunities for domestic and international college and graduate students. The objective of the internship program is to offer practical museum training experience to individuals interested in pursuing careers in the study of contemporary art or art museum administration, and to facilitate the communication between Rockbund Art Museum and other academic institutions.

2. Eligibility

Full-time applicants are eligible to apply for a job. All interested college or university seniors or graduate students with relevant majors are eligible to apply for an internship. Contemporary art lovers and those who are interested in pursuing art administrative works may also apply.

3. Internship Periods

Six Months: at least 3-4 days per week
Twelve Months: at least 2-3 days per week
* Those who have special reasons can apply to terminate the internship in advance with the consent of the library, but the internship certificate will not be issued if the internship is less than 500 hours.

4. Divisional Descriptions

Below are brief descriptions of the divisions at Rockbund Art Museum.

Main position: Designer (1 person)

You can participate in

1) Graphic design and execution in the museum (as shown below);

  -Design exhibitions, educational media promotional materials, including various posters, invitations, etc.

  -Design exhibition album

  -Design exhibition leaflets and other promotional pages

  -Design rendering of exhibition layout

  -Design tasks need to be improved according to the requirements of the exhibition department and feedback

  -Maintain the VI design style of the museum and increase the attention of the museum

  -Website maintenance

  -Assist special events

  -Supervise the selection and implementation of printed materials, cultural and creative products, and other related duties;

2) Assist in formulating various management methods, internal control system, work flow, etc. related to this position;

3) Strictly abide by laws and regulations and various rules and regulations of the museum, and complete other work related to the design direction.


We need you

1) Major in art or design, understand contemporary art at home and abroad, and be familiar with all elements of design;

2) Proficiency in the use of various types of graphic design software, such as Photoshop, CorelDraw, Illustrator, InDesign, etc., plus points for other software);

3) Familiar with online and offline knowledge and processes such as paper, design, layout, and print output, as well as cultural and creative materials and production processes;

4) Need to modify the design according to the requirements of each group, follow up the output of the design, complete the schedule or adjust the work focus and time according to the requirements;

5) Possess a better aesthetic feeling and taste, have innovative consciousness, and achieve effective visual communication;

6) Have a sense of responsibility and teamwork; have good language skills and communication and understanding skills, including working with colleagues and suppliers, can withstand a certain amount of work ;

7) Pressure to complete tasks with high quality within the time limit, bilingual work in Chinese and English;

8) Two or more years of relevant work experience, especially those with experience in art institutions.


Internship: Exhibition Group (1 person)

Your work includes but is not limited to

1) Assistance in exhibition affairs (preliminary liaison, exhibition dismantling work, arrangement and translation of exhibition graphics, etc.);

2) Routine maintenance of exhibition halls and exhibits, and photography records;

3) Collect information on various educational activities and provide effective information to the library;

4) Construction of artist archives, library materials, management document translation (Chinese and English), etc .;

5) Tour guide commentary of the exhibition site in the current season (instructor assessment is required).


Internship: Administration Team (1 person)

Your work includes but is not limited to

1) Assistance in administrative affairs in the library (data filing, express mail delivery);

2) Office environment maintenance (equipment maintenance, art books sorting);

3) Intern attendance registration and summary;

4) Department employee reimbursement;

5) Reception, registration and guidance of visitors or interviewers;

6) Reservations for travel, wine, cars, etc.;

7) Perform other tasks assigned by the department.

* Having the following skills is a plus: English, office software, design software skills, legal, financial, personnel knowledge


Internship: Development Team (1 person)

Your work includes but is not limited to

1) Maintain communication with well-known domestic and international art foundations;

2) Assist in organizing VIP events for museum sponsors;

3) Assist the cooperation between the museum and various brands and enterprises;

4) Assist the museum to establish contact with local art organizations and social groups.

* We need you: enthusiasm for contemporary art, excellent bilingual communication skills & grounded attitude and international vision

* The following skills are added points: working experience in the consulting / auction / gallery industry & professional knowledge of contemporary art

*Specific salary and benefits related to the principal position will be interviewed with the applicant during the interview.

After the procedure is completed, successful applicants will start their internships on assigned positions.

6. Evaluation

1). Each intern will be assigned a departmental supervisor by the museum. Supervisors will assess interns, based on their participation in projects, and their objectives, performances, journals, researches and reports completed in the internship.
2). Interns should submit internship reports including suggestions before completing the internship. The report should be more than three thousands words.
3). Upon completion of the internship, the museum will issue interns official internship certificates and evaluations.


7. Restrictions

1). The museum does not issue internship certificates for those who worked for less than 300 hours.
2). Materials gained from the museum during the internship (including internship reports) are not allowed to be published without the museum’s permission.
3). Interns should complete the internship properly and according to the museum’s required days and hours. If interns disparage museum’s reputation during their service, the museum reserves the right to terminate the interns’ position and notify their affiliated schools.
