The Roberts Institute of Art Residency programme launches in May 2022.
The Roberts Institute of Art Residency is built on our core values of rigorous cross-disciplinary thinking, experimentation and conviviality. We invite international artists to our residency in Scotland to support their practice, offering time and space without the pressures of exhibition-making and production.
We accommodate one or two artists per residency on an invited basis, making the programme intimate and focussed.
A unique aspect of the RIA Residency is being responsive to the specific needs and aims of our residents on a case-by-case basis, which we develop through research and dialogue with each artist. We aim to provide creatively stimulating conditions for residents to explore ideas, materials and projects. During their stay, residents will be connected with practitioners from different disciplines, as well as with Scotland’s rich cultural field.
There is no requirement for artists to use their time to produce a ‘finished work’: our priority is to enable artists to think and create freely, try out ideas and different forms of expression. Together with partner organisations in Scotland, we explore how best to publicly present the artists’ time in residence, including through talks, podcasts and texts. There will also be a chance to see and hear more from the residents across our digital channels.
