Jan Mankes

With the exhibition Museum Belvédère celebrates a century Frisian ‘FRYSK’ painting in all its diversity. Though more than one hundred artists are included in this overview, it doesn’t pretend to be exhaustive. The selection includes artists who are born in Friesland, but also those who lived and worked there (or still live and work).

The result ranges from traditional to modern, is both figurative and abstract, and shows big names beside small masters. Of course, there are works by artists who have been to the museum, such as Jan Mankes, Thijs Rinsema, Tames Oud, Gerrit Benner, Sjoerd de Vries, Baker Bregman, Willem van Althuis and Robert Zandvliet.

Also, the naive art is not forgotten thanks to the work of Jentje van der Sloot and Ruurd Wiersma.
