The Metropolitan Museum of Art : Research Associate


Full time position.


The Research Associate will conduct research in the field of post-medieval European Judaica, including decorative arts, ceremonial objects, numismatics, manuscripts, paintings and prints. S/he will work with the ESDA curatorial team and interdepartmentally (Medieval, Islamic, Asian, Arms and Armor and Modern and Contemporary) on the preparations for a 2021 exhibition on Judaica at the Met in the Wrightsman exhibition gallery. The installation would include new acquisitions, promised gifts and loans. This is a full-time position with an end date of 12/1/21



  • Conduct original research
  • Oversee and coordinate database of permanent collections and loans; catalogue
  • Prepare and coordinate administrative (loans) and interpretive (texts, media) materials for the exhibition
  • Cultivate collegial relationships with scholars, clergy, collectors and donors
  • Actively participate in donor cultivation and fundraising events



  • Excellent written, oral and editorial skills
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent computer and social media skills
  • Fluency in Hebrew (required) and Yiddish (preferred)
  • Strong reading and writing in German or another European language

Knowledge and Education:

PhD in art history, with an emphasis in arts related to the Jewish experience, Judaica, Judaic studies, or Jewish ceremonial art
