Job Summary

The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks an organized, flexible, and self-motivated individual to provide program coordination within the Public Programs Department at the Getty Villa.   Under the direct supervision of the Senior Education Specialist in Public Programs, the Public Programs Coordinator assists with researching, developing, scheduling, and implementing programs intended for adult, artist-based, and family audiences. Programs are often designed around special exhibitions and the permanent collection of ancient Mediterranean antiquities. Knowledge of classical antiquity and the ancient world more generally is a plus.

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Provides research assistance to the Public Programs department
  • Liaises with other departments in developing and executing lectures and symposia
  • Crafts proposals, letters, and summary documents
  • Performs data entry
  • Assists with budget preparation and reconciliation, invoicing, and preparing input for contracts
  • Provides logistical support to presenters traveling to Los Angeles
  • Maintains the quality and accuracy of documentation
  • Provides administrative support including ordering and inventorying supplies
  • Maintains program records, guest lists, and statistics
  • Creates/maintains project calendars and calendars of events


    • Bachelor’s degree
    • 1-3 years of project/process management and/or event planning experience as well as administrative experience

  • Thinks creatively to generate program and lecture ideas in collaboration with department colleagues
  • Possesses strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Works with people at multiple levels throughout the organization
  • Prioritizes multiple, sometimes competing deadlines
  • Manages last-minute changes and takes initiative in solving problems
  • Proficient in basic office software (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and procedures
