Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum : Communications Manager

Description

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Communications Manager will drive the design and execution of integrated media relations strategies, ensuring that the legacy, spirit and vision of the Museum are reinforced and brought to life. The role requires a talented storyteller and collaborative thought leader with the ability to move between strategic and tactical action.

Key Responsibilities

Public & Media Relations

  • Work closely with marketing team to design, develop, and execute public and media relations strategies and media materials in support of museum goals
  • Identify opportunities to effectively engage and develop the Museum’s strategic growth audiences via applicable channels, including traditional media, influencer outreach, social media, etc.
  • Serve as the primary media contact and external resource in conjunction with other leadership in External Engagement. Develop and maintain relationships and creatively and purposefully anticipate opportunities and challenges with journalists and key influencers in the arts and culture scene
  • Manage external consultants and service providers as needed

Content Creation

  • Develop press releases, bylines, media pitches, articles and organize and manage media and public events
  • Develop content in support of newly launched cross departmental email marketing program
  • Build on the Museum brand, ensure consistency and relevance in content and distribution channels and effectively integrate and reinforce goals of development and membership
  • Create powerful, original content that delivers results through thought leadership and creative storytelling
  • Write strategic copy in support of the Museum executive office
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as Human Resources and Board Relations, to strengthen internal communication efforts and ensure consistent messaging across the organization

Analysis & Insights

  • Create and deliver analysis to measure program effectiveness; continually make and implement recommendations for optimization and ongoing growth
  • Develop methods to evaluate communication projects based upon effectiveness and cost/benefit and documents results
Requirements
  • 7-10 years of experience in traditional and digital media
  • Positive, high energy attitude and a willingness to experiment with creative approaches to problems
  • Established relationships with journalists, influencers and other media professionals
  • Creative storyteller with exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Prior experience with Cision
  • Demonstrated proficiency with social media analytical tools
  • Strong leadership, project management and highly collaborative interpersonal skills
  • Strong interest or background in arts and culture
  • Experience supervising and/or managing staff
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
