Fondazione Augusto Rancilio is a non-profit cultural organization established in 1983 in memory of the architect Augusto Rancilio, who tragically died at the age of 26. Alongside its original purpose of study and research in the fields of Architecture, Design and Urban Planning – with particular attention to young people and their integration into the world of work – FAR today promotes the protection and enhancement of its institutional headquarters, Villa Arconati in Bollate, a delightful 17th-century villa surrounded by greenery on the outskirts of Milan.
The Foundation operates within the territory by promoting cultural initiatives, relationships, and national and international connections, as well as an important restoration project for the Villa and its Garden. Its goal is not only to return this heritage back to the community but to enhance today, in a contemporary and international perspective, the identity of a place of Architecture and Arts that in the past earned it the name of “Versailles of Milan”.
To realize its mission, in its thirty years of activity, the Foundation has been particularly committed to supporting the growth of professionalism and creativity of young architects and designers and has promoted systematic research, exchange, and confrontation. Since birth it has worked in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture of Politecnico di Milano, supporting scholarships and internships for his students. Since 1991, its activity has expanded and structured to respond more effectively to the needs of a changed scenario of training and design culture, thus developing its grantmaking, research and culture in an international perspective and obtaining – among other awards – a mention of Honor from the 18th Compasso d’Oro ADI Award in 1998.
Today the Foundation – thanks to its headquarters, Villa Arconati-FAR – opens to a new challenge by placing itself and its project of cultural recovery and reconversion as a reference and attraction pole for the creative and sustainable development of its territory.
Centro Studi FAR – The value of the research
Fondazione Augusto Rancilio has set up a study center at Villa Arconati-FAR that deals with retrieving and cataloging studies and sources related to the FAR collections, the villa and its park.
The Centro Studi FAR intends to promote and enhance the cultural heritage of the Foundation, conducting research internally and supporting the realization of studies also carried out by external subjects. It is available to students and researchers who are interested in carrying out works that concern the Foundation, the villa, or its territory by providing material and hosting internships or traineeships.
