As winner of the Fondazione Adolfo Pini – ReA! Fair, Freya Moffat (London,1994) opens her solo exhibition at the Fondazione. Freya Moffat is a painter, sculptor and draughtsman. Her most recent work uses papier-mâché, recycled cardboard boxes and is ultimately documented as photographs. The photographs are taken, for the most part, outside of the domestic backdrop in which the sculptures are placed. The process of finding and sculpting the form is intimate and physical. The life-size sculptures are curated, arranged in a domestic setting. The combination of sculpture and photography makes the art object deliberately illusory; the distance between the viewer and the sculpture makes what might be a more visceral reaction to the work, an invitation to extended reflection.
