The Fondation de l’Hermitage will host the second stop on an international exhibition organized by the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, in collaboration with the Kunsthalle in Munich and the Musée Fabre in Montpellier.
“Canada and Impressionism,” the first exhibition devoted to this theme, will feature major Canadian artists who, at the turn of the 20th century, served the cause of Impressionism in Canada. Covering several decades, Canada and Impressionism will bring together approximately 100 paintings by some 35 Canadian artists from renowned collections in Canada and abroad, both public and private. The works in this exhibition will be grouped into seven sections that retrace the journey of Canadian artists from their initiation to impressionism to their reinterpretation of the movement, and the emergence of a local avant-garde scene.
