Fondation Beyeler: Collection Technician

The Fondation Beyeler is one of the internationally renowned and most visited museums in Switzerland. Located in an idyllic park in Riehen near Basel, Renzo Piano’s museum building is considered one of the most beautiful art houses in Europe, as it harmoniously combines nature, architecture and art. The Fondation Beyeler houses one of the world’s best private collections and presents ongoing high-quality exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. Collection technician 80 – 100%

Your tasks
You are responsible for the technical aspects of storage, preservation, presentation and documentation of the collection works. Another focus is the registration of new acquisitions, which are added to our collection as purchases, permanent loans or donations. In cooperation with the art handlers, the restorers and the registrars, you will be responsible for updating the MuseumPlus database, for creating installation, packaging and transport manuals. You will support the Exhibition Services department in loan transactions and play a central role in the preparation and set-up of collection presentations. They implement international standards in the area of collection technology, contribute to the high quality of the museum with innovation and creativity, and further develop the standards, especially in the handling of the collection.

Your profile

Several years of experience in a similar function in the field of art, with advantage also with new media and room installations

Knowledge and enjoyment of working with databases (advantage MuseumPlus) and Documentation

Balanced interest in direct work on the object and desk work

Craftsman’s skills to carry out smaller and simpler tasks independently, especially with wood

Interest in research and trends on new developments of materials, at the Art transport, for packaging or storage

Excellent organizational skills and the flexibility to respond to short-term to respond to challenges constructively and positively

skill as well as a calm, concentrated and very precise way of working both in the showrooms as well as on the PC

Willingness to take responsibility and decision-making ability

Enjoy working with the highest aesthetic and quality standards

Good user knowledge of common MS Office products as well as Photoshop and Illustrator

Good knowledge of English, with advantage also knowledge of French, especially technical Technical terms
