Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art: Web Content and Digital Media Specialist

Position Overview:

This job is a great opportunity for an experienced web content manager with skills in user-centered design, web interaction design, web accessibility, and SEO. Daily work will focus on a unique array of fast-moving projects with high public visibility in service to a dynamic and growing museum that is dedicated to welcoming all. You will be responsible for maintaining our web content development and media management standards across all digital media resources, including our websites (Crystal Bridges: https://crystalbridges.org/ ; The Momentary https://themomentary.org/), ticketing site (https://tickets.crystalbridges-themomentary.org/events), in-gallery digital interactives, mobile applications, audio tours, digital signage, and other forms of electronic communications. The Web Content and Digital Media Specialist will manage multiple websites on a daily basis, designing new pages, redesigning older content, and ensuring content is published in a timely way and that the user experience is positive. You will coordinate a diverse group of content stakeholders, writers, editors, and media producers.

This position reports to and works with the Digital Media Director who sets project and task priorities. You work alongside in-house graphic designers to ensure consistency between the websites and related brand materials. You’ll be a part of a highly-collaborative, energetic, upbeat Communications team, committed to advancing the museum and the contemporary arts venue as causes for social good and a positive force for cultural development.

Principal Responsibilities (Essential Functions): Web Content and Digital Media Specialist

  • Web page design wireframes and prototypes
  • Coordinate with Digital Media, graphics designers, copywriters, and content stakeholders to proofread content and create/manage digital media assets (images, video, audio)
  • Manage information architecture and site navigation for all websites
  • Coordinate with Communications division project managers to define and schedule work
  • Adhere to the brand standards of the organization and the creative direction set by the Communications and Digital Media teams
  • Develop responsive mobile-first web page designs and test across browsers, platforms, and screen sizes/orientations
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to review and revise plans for digital communications including websites, social media, and in-gallery content
  • Establish and promote user interface and user experience guidelines, best practices, and standards
  • Perform content audits, keeping track of outdated/expired content
  • Set and maintain SEO standards and practice
  • Establish and maintain accessibility practices for all digital properties in coordination with digital content and experience stakeholders
  • Analyze and report site use metrics for stakeholders using Google Analytics, Tag Manager
  • Collaborate with the museum’s digital marketing vendors in reporting
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training, and Traits:

  • Demonstrable skills with a strong portfolio of professional work
  • Experience with WordPress or similar template-based web content management system of equivalent sophistication
  • Proven ability to drive complex content development and publication efforts involving multiple stakeholders (including external vendors) to successful and timely conclusions
  • Proficiency in web interaction and web page design demonstrating a mobile-first approach
  • Proficiency with website design tools such as wireframing and interaction design applications (e.g., Sketch or Balsamiq) and photo editors (e.g., Photoshop). Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, Adobe AfterEffects is a plus
  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS. Experience with Javascript, SASS, JADE, or other preprocessors is a plus
  • Experience creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, and sitemaps
  • Experience developing and redesigning website information architectures and site navigation
  • Experience with one or more forms of formal project management methods (e.g., WBS, Kanban) and tools (e.g., SmartSheets, MS Project)
  • Comfortable working closely with and taking feedback from graphic design and web development team members
  • Excellent visual design skills with an exceptional eye for detail
  • Up-to-date with the latest Web design and digital content management trends, techniques, and technologies
  • Demonstrably sound judgment and effective interpersonal skills

Work Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) years work experience in web information and page design and web content management preferred
  • Work as part of a mid-to-large-sized creative team preferred
  • Work on a major website redesign and content migration preferred
  • Certification in web content management, user experience design, or any related skills is a plus
  • A BA or Master’s degree in a related field is a plus
  • Experience with Digital Asset Management systems is a plus
  • Experience managing digital content for performing arts and/or cultural heritage organizations is a plus

  • Physical demands:  In the work environments described below, position requires working at desk/workstation and utilizing a computer for prolonged periods of time as well as physical ability to attend to in-gallery equipment for content management and technical support activities.
  • Work Environment:  Work will be performed in an office environment and in museum spaces as necessary. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
