The AHL Foundation is pleased to announce their Awards, Grants & Fellowships for 2019. All calls are open to eligible artists of Korean Heritage who are active in the United States and meet the criteria for each respective award, grant or fellowship. AHL – T&W Foundation Contemporary Visual Art Awards The AHL-T&W Foundation Contemporary Visual Art Awards was established in 2004 to support Korean artists living in the United States and to promote exposure of their work in today’s highly competitive contemporary art world. Deadline: March 1, 2019 | Winner Announcement: April, 30, 2019 Gold Award: $5,000 / Silver Award: $4,000 / Bronze Award: $3,000
AHL Foundation’s Artist’s Fellowship The AHL Foundation is asking for your participation in its artist fellowship. The Artist Fellowship will be awarded to exceptional but under-resourced Korean American artists to support their creative activities. Application Period: May 1 – July 31, 2019 | Winner’s Announcement: August 31st, 2019 $5,000 to four selected winners
AHL – Wolhee Choe Memorial Grant The AHL- Wolhee Choe Memorial Grant is to support the art historians and art writers to encourage and promote academic research and publications on Korean visual art and Korean-American artists. Deadline: April 1, 2019 | Winner Announcement: June, 2019 $3,000
AHL – Grace Charity Foundation Curatorial & Research Fellowship This fellowship is awarded annually to a researcher or a curator who is passionate about preserving and studying the artworks of Korean heritage. The candidate must have a master’s degree or in a doctorate program of art history or cultural studies. Deadline: April 1, 2019 | Winner Announcement: June, 2019 $5,000
AHL – Chun Family Foundation Curatorial Fellowship This fellowship provides a stipend and hands-on curatorial experiences to an emerging curator of Korean heritage. The Curatorial Fellow will be provided with the opportunity to assist with AHL’s exhibition programs including opportunities to curate his/her own exhibition during the fellowship. AHL – Andrew & Barbara Choi Family Grant The AHL – Andrew & Barbara Choi Family Grant is to support the artist’s creative process and to cultivate innovative and challenging work through financial assistance during key moments in the development of an artist’s career. This grant will be awarded annually based on artistic merit and its impact on contemporary art. This is a project specific grant and can only be used for the creation and exhibition/execution of a specific artwork/project. Deadline: May 1, 2019 | Winner Announcement: July, 2019 $5,000
AHL – Jason J. Kim Grant The AHL–Jason J. Kim Grant is a biennial grant to assist the artists in realizing specific projects while building their capacity to sustain their productive long-term careers. An ideal recipient would be a midcareer artist with a significant record of exhibitions and must demonstrate a substantial financial need in executing an impending project. Deadline: May 1, 2019 | Winner Announcement: July, 2019 $20,000
MISSION
AHL Foundation, In. is a 501(c)[3] not-for profit arts organization established to support artists of Korean heritage living in the United States. Our missions is threefold: 1) to seek, identify and promote talented Korean and Korean-American artists working in the United States; 2) to provide the artists with a platform to further develop and promote their talents; and 3) to sponsor cultural, educational, and artistic events whose function is to build a wider public awareness of artists of Korean heritage. AHL seeks to accomplish its mission by promoting the work of emerging and under-recognized artists of Korean descent through grants and exhibitions; informing and educating artists on the business side of the art practice; and building a community of supporters and art enthusiasts while providing rich and diverse educational programs to underserved communities.
